Magic Backlash Effects

  • 1: Bad Omens
    • The natural environment exhibits warning signs that
    • Effect: Disturbed animals, broken mirrors, and other culturally-relevant superstitious events occur within {severity} miles for the next 24 hours.
  • 2: K-H Pollution
    • Weakened natural laws cause erratic power fluctuations.
    • Effect: Add k-h pollution field condition for up to 24 hours in {severity} squares.
  • 3: Malaise
    • For whatever reason, things just aren't going the way people want.
    • Effect: For up to a fortnight and within {severity} miles, all creatures have -2 skill rolls.
  • 4: Mass K-H Pollution
    • Weakened natural laws cause erratic power fluctuations over a wide area.
    • Effect: Add k-h pollution field condition for up to 14 days to area within {severity} miles.
  • 5: K-H Blackout
    • Extreme K-H pollution breaks out to the point that safety governors on generators are not enough, and devices enter emergency shut-down mode.
    • Effect: Add k-h blackout field condition for up to {severity} hours to area within 100 squares.
  • 6: Entropy
    • Nature seems to retaliate against the magic, spreading decay, rust, waste, and rot to the area.
    • Effect: {Severity} objects within 100 squares take 1D6/3 damage to all body areas.

  • 1: Corruption
    • The magus move closer to indulging their desires.
    • Effect: Add {severity / 5, minimum 1} corruption.

  • 2: Whispered Secrets
    • Disembodied voices reveal supposed unwitnessed events and inner thoughts to those around the magus.
    • Effect: {Severity} secrets or lies can be heard by creatures within 10 squares.
  • 3: Process Corruption
    • Computer processes in the area mysteriously stop or hang.
    • Effect: {Severity} processes in nearby networks end and must be restarted.
  • 4: Mass Disconnection
    • For unknown reasons, data signals are broken causing network disconnection.
    • Effect: Creatures in an area 10*{severity} squares in diameter are disconnected from all possible networks and must re-connect.
  • 5: Phantom Administrator
    • The subject of many a network ghost story- a phantom user joins the network and harasses its users to the point of causing mental breakdowns or 'accidents.'
    • Effect: An unknown user connects to a network and has administrator access. This user acts maliciously and cannot be disconnected, have access revoked, or otherwise be targeted by abilities. The user disconnects after {severity} hours.
  • 6: Mass Network Projection
    • The ability to project one' consciousness is a dream frequently featured in the holovids, but in reality it can be a nightmare that leaves the body helpless but barely alive.
    • Effect: Reserve 12 FP for {severity} hours to 2D6 creatures.
