According to their history, anthegals came into being by an early kingdom of men that mixed and interbred with angels. They have since isolated themselves from the rest of the world, and limited breeding with other humans in an attempt to keep their bloodlines pure. Those that have interacted with anthegals in modern times claim they have super-human abilities, though skeptics are still numerous. Detractors say they are a hermetic society with a racial superiority complex. Anthegals counter that their increased strengths come with an equal increase in responsibility towards Virtue - that they are compelled to follow the path of Good lest they lose their powers. For this reason, they claim, Anthegalia has never invaded another nation or pursued racial domination over humans. Anthegals can use most human cybernetics with few modifications, but are not able to become complete constructs.
Humans that have had all parts of their body replaced with cybernetic prosthetics, constructs are, like their parent race, a varied and diverse group. The term 'race' is a misnomer most of the time- very few people are actually cybernized right after birth (“true” Constructs); many live decades before requiring the process as a medical necessity, military or corporate opportunity, lifestyle choice. Most societies are still coming to grips with the possibilities and consequences of full cybernetic individuals. Several follow so-called "constructionism" and celebrate constructs, while others are more suspicious or even outright hostile to the idea of functionally mechanical citizens. This tension usually ends at the battle line, however, as most modern militaries field constructs in some capacity, though this has led to a view, fair or not, of constructs as barbaric death machines.
Replace all natural body areas with prosthetics from any of the following series:
The people from the nation of Drakontas are physically similar to humans except a small pair of horns, each sitting between the ear and temple on the side of the head. On the inside, however, dragoons are very different. At birth each is infused with the spirit of a dragon using a ritual that has been passed down for thousands of years. The large bio-tech corporations have yet to find cybernetic devices compatible with this different physiology, and thus very little of a dragoon's body can be replaced with cybernetics. In addition, dragoons culture often shuns modern technology, stressing tradition and old codes of honor over the latest gadgets. For these reasons many dragoons prefer the old style of fighting, but are still considered fearsome and brave warriors. Lacking many cultural taboos on the use of magic, many also become accomplished magi.
Humans are more than just the most adaptable race, they are insatiably curious, and incredibly driven even against immense odds. Most data shows around 90% of the world's population is human. They are quick to adopt technology, ingenious, and industrious; lending them economic, cultural, and political dominance. At the same time, most remain deeply spiritual beings; a few even still practicing the mysteries of arcane magics. Whatever mankind set their wills to, they usually succeed, for good or ill. If a human' entire body is replaced by cybernetics they are considered "Constructs".
Sek-Agkelos, so-called chaos angels, are spiritual beings that, depending on one's point of view, either were angels stranded after the Cessation, or are servants of the god of technology, who drove out the other gods from the physical world. Regardless of their origin, those that have contact with them agree they are a lost race. Most of their kind wander the world in search of meaning, broken and aimless. Like the shapeshifters they are small in number, but can still be found in certain secret areas of society. Those that live in the open are often mistaken for humans with a cybernetic appendage fetish. Due to their celestial nature, however, actual cybernetic usage is incredibly difficult.
According to legend, shapeshifters were born when the god of chaos could not maintain his existence and fractured into many pieces. These pieces were stabilized by the natural order, but could change their form easier than other beings. Due to their shifting body composition, it is nearly impossible to create advanced cybernetics compatible with shapeshifter physiology, leaving most to use only crude bio-electric implants. While they were never numerous in previous eras, in modern times their numbers have declined sharply. Many believe they are extinct or the stuff of myth, while even those that acknowledge their existence believe they may be on the verge of disappearing completely. Rumors say that what few exist are employed in various intelligence and diplomatic agencies, where their natural skills can be put to clandestine use.
